Recruitment

“How we treat our pledges will determine how we attract our future pledges.”

Alpha Omega Delta of Chi Psi has been pledging men of quality and scholars since 2003, and we consider recruitment to be one of the most important of all our activities. The continuation of Alpha Omega Delta’s ideal;s and spirit, relies upon the next set of young men who will be brothers of Alpha Omega Delta of Chi Psi.

The relatively small size of our chapter, or Alpha, lends itself to an extremely close Brotherhood and the establishment of life-long friendships. The Brothers of Chi Psi take pride in, and support, the diversity of our members: their backgrounds, beliefs, religious affiliations, extracurricular involvement and their fields of academic study.

Our Brotherhood is selective and thus excels in academics, leadership, philanthropy and social life. Our recruitment process holds very high standards and is looking for only the best George Mason University undergraduate men. A Chi Psi gentleman is distinguished in virtually all aspects of life. He is a man of great integrity, honesty, loyalty, and responsibility. Does this sound like you?

Academics:

Chi Psi acknowledges our member’s primary responsibility is to their

education. We expect every man interested in becoming a member of Chi Psi to have earned at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA (although we would prefer a 3.0 GPA) and to maintain at least that average during his membership. To support members, the fraternity helps to coordinate members with various academic services offered through George Mason University such as, Learning Services which provides students with the aid and assistance of tutors, as well as the Writing Center which will critique your papers for class.

Leadership:

Chi Psi is committed to developing me for life well after their college days. Many of our current members are also involved with other organizations at George Mason University. In those organizations, our members hold high leadership positions, especially within Student Government. We fully expect that every Chi Psi will be involved in some form of campus leadership through departmental honor societies, special interest clubs, spiritual organizations, or any other type of student based organization.

Philanthropy:

Service to others is another proud aspect of a Chi Psi gentleman. Our Alpha participates in several service events each semester. By getting involved with the campus and community, our Brotherhood cultivates a deeper grasp into everyday life. We participate regularly in Relay for Life, and in the past year we raised almost $8,000 towards cancer research. Likewise, we participate in National Youth Day events and attend regular HART events where members help to find abandoned dogs new homes, Chi Omega’s Battle of the Sexes for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and support other philanthropic events throughout the year.

Social Life:

Our social calendar for the school year is packed with fun and exciting events. To name a few there’s camping trips, ski-trips, mini-golf, bowling, fraternity/sorority mixers, Brotherhood events, intramural sports, basketball tailgating, Brotherhood dinners, Formal and Semi-formal, and much more.

How do we rush new Chi Psis? We don’t rush them, we recruit them.

Participating in Rush Week is the best way to become acquainted with the George Mason University fraternity system. A prospective member, (known as a potential member) meets the members of the fraternities he’s interested in by going to their Rush Events. A potential member’s decision to rush in no way binds him to join a fraternity; every Rush event and each phase of Rush is a voluntary commitment.

IFC sponsors a recruitment period in the Fall and Spring semesters for all undergraduate students. We encourage everybody who’s interested in fraternities to meet the brothers during Summer Orientation sessions, and then come out for Rush Week, once you are on campus in August. If you come to the Summer Orientation and hangout with some of the brothers prior to Rush Week, you’ll then be able to get to know the brothers over the summer without any other obligations.

However, Rush is a simple dogmatic approach to getting men interested in joining fraternities. Here at Chi Psi, we are looking for the best qualified undergraduate men. If we wanted 50 people to join our fraternity each semester, we would give out a bid to everyone. That’s not who we are. We want the very best, and we are willing to look for it.

We hope that means you.

If you or someone you know may be interested in joining Chi Psi, or have any other questions about the recruitment process, please email our recruitment chairman, Arthur Choate at achoate@gmail.com
