Potential Member Information

“Chi Psi chooses her men not for college days but for life.”

- Franklin B. Hussey, Amherst 1882

Alpha Omega Delta of Chi Psi has been pledging gentlemen and scholars since 2003 and we consider recruitment to be one of the most important of all our activities. The continuation of the chapter’s ideals relies upon the next set of young men who will be brothers of Alpha Omega Delta.

The relatively smaller size of our chapters, or Alphas, lends itself to an extremely close Brotherhood and life-long friendships. The Brothers of Chi Psi take pride in, and support, the diversity of our members: their backgrounds, beliefs, extracurricular involvement and their fields of academic study.

Our Brotherhood is selective and thus excels in academics, leadership, philanthropy and social life. Our recruitment process holds very high standards and is looking for only the best George Mason University undergraduate men. A Chi Psi gentleman is distinguished in virtually all aspects of life. He is a man of great integrity, honesty and loyalty. Does this sound like you?

ACADEMICS:

Chi Psi acknowledges our members’ primary responsibility is to their education. We expect every man interested in Chi Psi to have earned at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA (although we prefer a 3.0 GPA) and to maintain at least that average during his membership. To support members, we coordinate help coordinate them with various academic services around campus including Learning Services, which has tutors for every subject, and the Writing Center which will critique your papers for class.

LEADERSHIP:

Chi Psi is committed to developing men for life well after their college days. Many of our current members are also involved with other organizations at George Mason University. In those organizations our members hold high leadership positions, especially within Student Government. We fully expect that every Chi Psi will be involved in campus leadership through department societies, special interest clubs, spirit organizations or any other type of student based organization.

PHILANTHROPY:

Service to others is another proud aspect of a Chi Psi gentleman. Our Alpha hosts and participates in several service events each semester. By getting involved with the campus and community our Brotherhood cultivates a deeper grasp into everyday life. We participate regularly in Relay for Life, and in the past year we raised almost $6,000 dollars towards cancer research. Likewise, we participate in National Youth Day events and attend regular HART events where members help to find abandoned dogs new homes, Chi Omega’s Battle of the Sex’s for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and support other philanthropic events throughout the year.

SOCIAL LIFE:

Our social calendar for the school year is packed with fun and exciting events. To name a few there’s camping trips, mini-golf, fraternity/sorority mixers, Brotherhood events, intramural sports, basketball tailgating, Brotherhood dinners, Formal and Semi-Formal, and much more.

How do we pick new Chi Psis? We don’t pick them, we recognize them.

Participating in recruitment is the best way to become acquainted with the George Mason University fraternity system. A prospective member (known as a potential member) meets the members of the fraternities he’s interested in by going to their recruitment events. A potential member’s decision to rush in no way binds him to join a fraternity; every recruitment event and each phase of recruitment is a voluntary commitment.

IFC sponsors a recruitment period in the Fall and Spring semesters for all undergraduate students. We encourage everybody who’s interested in fraternities to meet the brothers during the Summer Orientation Carnivals, and then come out for recruitment, once you are on campus in August. If you come to the Summer Orientations and hangout with some of the brothers prior to Rush Week, you’ll then be able to get to know the Brothers over the semester without any other obligations.

If you or someone you know may be interested in joining the Chi Psi, or have any questions about the recruitment process, please email our recruitment chair, Artie Choate at achoate9@gmail.com.
